Knowing my sons are knowledgeable and capable of constructing any writing genre expected of them in high school and college is a gratifying feeling. Let's work on getting your 3rd through 8th-grade children prepared, too. (THE WHO) You are so busy! Homeschooling parents have fuller days than most peoples. Why not let me help you in the area of writing? (THE WHAT) Imagine this. It is Monday, at the start of a new month. You reheat your coffee for the umpteenth time, get the kids working on an independent task, and sit yourself down. Using the tech device of your choice, you log-in to our Mom WEBBinar, and along with many other moms just like you, you begin to learn all about the writing style of that month. By the end of our hour together, you feel so informed, empowered, and confident! You think things like, "I never knew that," or "I wish I had learned that when I was a child." Now you are excited. You print off the monthly lesson plan calendar and save the links to all the pdf files and videos you will need. Done. You have stellar writing planned for the month and now you just implement it into your lesson plans whenever and wherever it fits best for you and your family. (THE WHEN and WHERE) Each month we will learn and practice a different style of writing. We will cover and even extend beyond the Writing Core Standards. You will learn the specifics of each style, best teaching techniques, common roadblocks students face, and best structure practices. As well, you will have access to the recording of our WEBBinar so that you may return to the instruction at any time and review any part you may need to refresh your mind. And, don't forget, in our private Facebook Community, you can ask as many questions as you wish. (THE WHY) Now for the real fun! At the end of the month, your child will get to share his or her work with me via Google Docs. I will take screenshots of some of the best teaching pieces. All of the students will meet me live online for the end-of-the-month WEBBinar, and we will discuss and enjoy the hard work and efforts each person made. There is tremendous power in an audience of peers.
WHO will benefit from my ONLINE WRITING INSTRUCTION? PARENTS WILL! You will either get a refresher course or learn new writing knowledge or techniques each month to aide you in the advancement of your child's writing abilities. Ask yourself if you could instruct your child on the differences between an opinion paper and an argumentative one. What are the differences between explanatory, expository, and informative styles of writing. What should your elementary or middle school child know about MLA format? How do students today cite their sources from resources such as internet websites, digital articles, and YouTube videos? STUDENTS WILL! There is so much to learn in the area of writing and whether you and your child participate in one month of lessons or all seven, students will gain knowledge and confidence. As well, students tend to work harder and longer with more attention to detail when a new audience is present. Having other students and peers looking at one another's finished assignments allows students to set goals while adding some valuable accountability at the same time.
